Hallux Valgus, commonly referred to as a bunion, is a deformity at the first metatarsophalangeal joint. The first metatarsal begins to angle outward and the big toe, or hallux, begins to angle inward leaving a prominent bump on the inside of the foot. This can cause pain and difficulty with footwear.
