What is elbow bursitis?

Bursae are small fluid-filled sacs located around each joint in the body. Their function is to cushion and lubricate the joints, allowing them to move smoothly. The Olecranon bursa is the main bursa of the elbow joint.

What causes elbow bursitis?

Elbow bursitis is most commonly caused by direct force or repetitive stress. It can also be injured from a fall. When the bursa is hit, it becomes inflamed, causing pain and limiting motion in the joint.

What is the best way to treat elbow bursitis?

Most doctors will prescribe the R.I.C.E. protocol following a biceps or triceps strain; rest, ice, compression, and elevation. A compression sleeve improves blood flow to the muscle, speeding recovery and relieving pain.
